About Tim Byers
Tim Byers writes atmospheric WWII historical fiction inspired by the people, landscapes, and hidden stories of Luxembourg and the surrounding regions. He lives and writes in Carmel, Indiana, with his wife and best friend, Mary—his favorite traveling companion on every research trip and pastry stop.
I wrote my first novel in junior high school, and the manuscript must have been stolen, because years later, I saw it on screen in Red Dawn.
Much of my youth, while not spent playing sports, camping with the Boy Scouts, or singing in musicals, was devoted to WWII–models, books, and movies.
And spy thrillers, almost exclusively by Alistair MacLean–Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, Ice Station Zebra.
Studying in the Grand Duchy anchored the settings in my heart. Anyone who visits this hidden gem of a place will instantly agree. There I met the US Ambassador to Luxembourg, John Dolibois, the founder of the Miami University (now Dolibois) European Center, whose life and service inspired me further.
But life has a way of being logical, practical, clinical–and so it was several years before everything came together into real stories.
I love the places you go in these stories, and respect the people who endured these times more than I can express.
Most of all, I hope you enjoy them.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me remodeling houses with my son, teaching adult immigrants English at the library, riding a bike, or planning my next “research” trip with my wife and best friend, Mary. Nothing beats a stroll along the Luxembourg casemate walls, coffee, and discovering a new detail for inspiration.
